Harakeke - New Zealand flax extract

One of the ingredients in SoSimple skincare products is Harakeke extract (New Zealand flax), a nectar which offers far more anti-inflammatory and hydration benefits than Aloe Vera. Recent studies also reveal that Harakeke contains high concentrations of oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and stearic acid, polysaccharides and smaller contributions of triacylglycerol’s, phytosterols and antioxidants. Phytosterols are known for their anti-irritation and anti-inflammatory properties. Fatty acids from Harakeke are also attributed to repairing, moisturising and soothing damaged skin. Harakeke was traditionally used by the Maori people for centuries.  Its cooling and healing properties are particularly good for skin complaints.  Its fatty acids help to repair, moisturise and soothe damaged or stressed skin. With greater hydrating benefits than Aloe Vera, Harakeke provides a cooling layer of protection to keep skin hydrated and refreshed. Excellent for after sun exposure and minor burns, its antiseptic and healing properties soothe skin irritations and promote faster healing.

Kawakawa oil & Kawakawa extract (New Zealand native medicinal plant)

Known as the pharmacy of the forest, Kawakawa has been in use by New Zealand Maori people, as an ointment against skin problems such as eczema, inflamed and irritated skin, eruptions, bruises, boils, ringworm, scalds and sunburn, among other commonplace malaises. KawaKawa oil and extract are nature’s remarkable secret for their ability to soothe and heal.  One of the most important traditional Maori plants, it is used for healing skin complaints such as cuts, wounds, bruises and eczema because of its anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Mamaku Black Fern - New Zealand's giant Black Tree Fern

Mamaku is the name of the giant black ferns endemic to New Zealand, which are responsible for protecting the entire native forest from water loss. Used by New Zealand Maori people as a poultice, Mamaku extract also helps protect and hydrate your skin while promoting healthy cell renewal. The Mamaku's ability to regenerate and stimulate cell growth and repair DNA strains make it a precious plant which is sought after worldwide. The beneficial qualities of Mamaku leaves have been extracted and naturally preserved in a base of certified organic plant glycerine to make this extract.  This giant black fern is native to New Zealand and protects native forests from water loss.  Its extract does the same thing for skin and is sought after internationally for its ability to be a powerful skin hydrator, promoting healthy cell renewal as well as repairing DNA strains.  An extract from this large native New Zealand tree fern has an instant tightening effect on the skin. This is due to the way it forms a molecular network across the skin providing cutaneous micro-relief, which helps to support the skin. These properties may increase tone and firmness. Mamaku Extract reinforces cytoskeleton, stimulates cell renewal and increases GAGs.

New Zealand Kiwi seed oil

The fruit is regarded as a 'superfood' due to its high levels of antioxidants, enzymes and fatty acids. Kiwi seed oil can help improve elasticity as well as reduce wrinkles and fine lines. This ultra-nourishing Kiwifruit seed oil is high in vitamins E, C, Omega-3 and contains around 60% of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to lessen the appearance of fine lines, firm the skin and can also help to maintain moisture in the skin. This ingredient also contains natural AHAs, which are used to moisturise and exfoliate the skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids are very effective in treating wrinkles and pigmentation. It has been scientifically proven to inhibit melanin production and deliver brightness with its unique lightening and whitening action. It helps to restore clarity and reduces redness, dark spots and skin pigmentation caused by the ageing process.

New Zealand Avocado Oil

The Bay of Plenty in New Zealand is one of the world’s finest avocado growing region. The nutrient-rich volcanic soil and high sunshine hours play an important role in producing the finest avocado fruit. The vitamins and minerals in avocado oil are boosting your skin’s ability to generate more and stronger cells. High in vitamin E, potassium, and lecithin which are the primary skin-feeding nutrients which are all easily absorbed through the epidermis and into the dermis where they provide energy for the growth and health of new skin as well as fortification of existing cells. Avocado oil completes SoSimple’ s philosophy that skin strength is what is needed to help fight environmental damage.

Kanuka Hydrosol

Kanuka was used originally by the Maori people of New Zealand for a variety of ailments such as skin, oral, urinary, digestive and respiratory infections. Modern research has revealed anti-microbial activity for Kanuka against some bacteria and viruses. Helpful in combating skin infections and skin irritations (acne, spots, and related conditions). Both Kanuka and Manuka are colloquially referred to as 'Tea tree' though should not be confused either with each other or with Australian Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia).

Manuka Honey

The medicinal properties of Manuka have recorded as long ago as 1769 by Captain Cook when he anchored in Mercury Bay he brewed tea from the Manuka tree hence the name “Tea Tree”.  Maori have used the Manuka as a medicine for centuries.  Though all raw, unheated honey has health benefits, Manuka has been found to have higher therapeutic properties than other varieties. Manuka honey works wonders for blemished skin because of its natural antibacterial properties. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory ingredient, so soothes inflamed skin while healing blemishes. It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glowy complexion. Manuka promotes skin regeneration, repairs cellular damage and lessens scarring.
